Busy Ballerinas!

Hello Dance Friends! We have had so much going on lately here at DCJ Dance!

We are in full swing prep for our winter recital and this weekend some of our beautiful Divas will be performing at the Miss Dallas Pageant.

One of our Alumni Christa Widjaja will also be performing as she gives up her Miss Teen Dallas crown from last year. Miss Jordan was also Miss Teen Dallas so the MDO holds a special place in the DCJ Family's heart!

We can't wait to be there to support Christa, but also to watch our girls be a part of the opening number and finale entertainment. What a cool experience!

If you are in the area please join us Saturday night at the Eisemann Theatre in Richardson. Contact the studio for more information.

Welcome Hallowrinas!

Hello little pumpkins!
Tomorrow marks one week from Halloween so you know what that means- all Hallowrinas can wear their costumes to dance! From tomorrow until next Tuesday all students may wear their costumes to class- students must be able to dance in their costume and no masks are allowed. We would recommend wearing a leotard undernieth costumes so if it becomes distracting or uncomforable to wear. We can't wait to see all of our little dancers dreassed up in their boo-tiful costumes and of course wish them a HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

***On a side note WalMart is opening it's doors on Wednesday, October 23 so be aware of an extra crowded parking lot***

Fall is in the Air!

Fall is in full swing here at DCJ Dance! We had our Christmas Recital Auditions a few weeks ago; the Competition Team has started to learn chorography for the 12-13 season and all of our students are adjusting to their classes! We love this time of year! It is so fun to see our students start to excel in their classes as well as get involved outside of the studio. We have students are in sports, who play musical instruments, who cheerlead or do drill team and all other types of activities- so fall is also a time to be proud of our very well rounded kiddos at the studio!

This week is Bring A Friend Week at DCJ Dance! We would love to have you bring a friend or two and show them a little about DCJ Dance. Have them check in with Kim at the front desk upon arrival. For each friend you bring you will get your name entered in a drawing for a free spring recital costume and if your friend signs up you will get $25 off your October Tuition. We can’t wait for twice the dancing fun!

Today was an exciting day here at the studio! We had our awesome videographer, Perfect Eye Productions, from recital here at the studio to shoot a behind the scenes commercial of sorts. We were able to highlight the kids dancing, stretching at the barre and putting on make-up for a performance. After completion this video will be on our website so you will all get to see it!

A special thank you to our video stars for helping us out today –

Olivia Lester

What a fun day – can’t wait to see the finished product!

New Year - New Classes

This year we have decided to add a few new and exciting classes to our oldies, but goodies (Jazz and Ballet). One of the new classes is Strength, Stretch and Conditioning and the kids really seem to love it so far. SS&C is a mix between boot camp, training for the Olympics and doing whatever you can do to make yourself a better dancer. Only kidding J

But really, in this class the kids will take stretching to a whole new level, fine-tuning their flexibility and reaching to excel. They will also being using arm and leg weights to tone and build strength in muscles they didn’t even know they had – and they do all this while balancing heart-rate boosting exercises for the entire length of the class. Wow! I’m feelin’ the burn just talking about it! All three of these components are an important part building core strength and improving a dancers overall health and well being! We thought this would be a great addition to our class schedule this year and we offer it for Levels 1-5!
Please let us know at the front desk if you would like to add or try the SS&C class – we can’t promise it will be easy, but it will be well worth it!

Some of the Level 1-3 girls working it out in class! Looking good ladies!

We Need A Little Christmas...

Some of you may remember our holiday extravaganza “The Night Before Christmas,” from years past - I grew up looking forward to it every year and performed in it from age 8 to 20-somthing! Well over the past three years we haven't had it - we moved studios over the weekend it was normally held, SOMEBODY ;) got married, etc. Well this year we decided we needed a little more Christmas in our lives and have decided to do an interpretation on our show combined with the entire studio for a Christmas Recital. Check out the details below - I for one am very excited! We will have some feature rolls doing excerpts from our show and all the classes doing a Christmas themed dance they will learn in class. Please see Kim at the front desk for more info!
Anyone recognize this Dancin' Doll? - It's Miss Jordan!

A message from DCJ:
This year the studio will hold a Winter Recital for all students on Sunday afternoon, December 16.  All classes will perform a dance in the show.  There will be no dress rehearsal, recital fee, and costumes will be very minimal and low cost.  Of course, the winter recital is optional, as is the spring recital.

In addition to classes performing we will incorporate featured roles from our show “The Night Before Christmas” that was performed for over 15 years.  Auditions for featured roles will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8.

Requirements for audition and featured roles:

· age 6 and older, with a minimum of one full year of dance training

· $100 rehearsal and costume rental fee

· Rehearsals will take place on various Friday evenings, Saturdays,   possible Sundays and during the week.

· Dancers must commit to performing in role cast when auditioning and attending all rehearsals.

· Featured roles will have dress rehearsal on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 15 and perform in 2 shows on Sunday, Dec. 16.

· Featured roles include ballet, pointe, jazz, modern, and tap.

Please see dvd in lobby of our last show and photo album of pictures from show.  Check with any of the teachers for more information or questions.

Easter Weekend and Monday (bad weather day)

Hey Dancers! Hope you all had a wonderful Easter!

It was a nice weekend off of dance to spend with family! We also have today - April 9th off as well. As many of you know we follow the LISD calender and they are closed for a bad weather day today. Crazy to think that a year ago we used up all of our bad weather days and then some and this year we have barely had enough cold days to go though a bushel of fire. Today is also Ms. Rebecca's birthday so send her some good bday vibes!

Even though the studio is closed we will have 5 hours, yes 5 (ekk), of rehearsal for the recital opening number - 35 Seasons of Love - wish us luck as we travel through the decades and go on a wild ride of music from then to now!

Until next time!!!
